Glass
Inserts for Doors
LLangollen
Kitchen
cabinet doors created for a client in Llangollen. The
brief was to create doors with a design to match the clients
tiles. The majority of the tiles were a terrocota (ish)
colour, with one in four in green. Interspersed amongst
them were patterned tiles with leafs on dark
reddish/terracotta/golden/pink backgrounds.
The client
required the doors to have a textured finish, with colours
matching her tiles using some iridescent and dichroic glass made
into leaves which matched the leaves on the patterned tiles.
The finished
results are shown below. Please click on the thumbnails
for a closer view.
I cut
the leaves, which match the pattern of the leaves in the tiles,
using two colours of iridescent green glass. The small
triangles at the top of each door arch were a problem so, using
an opaque green glass, which matched the green tiles perfectly,
I cut two arches, which were placed on the top end of a clear
glass base. I cut arches, rather than small triangles
because they looked better when the doors were opened.
Placing the
leaves onto the clear glass, I then smashed up yellow and
reddish glass, which again, matched the background colours of
the patterned tiles. Once the smashed up glass was
sprinkled around the leaves, blending in the two different
colours, I sprinkled broken bits of dichroic glass amongst the
reddish brown and yellow glass. A green dichroic that
matched the green of the arch and a pink, which matched the pink
background on one of the patterned tiles.
The finished
pieces were partially tack fuse fired on fibreboard to give them
texture.
The client
was delighted with her kitchen 'fused glass art'.
